How to use the Home studio pack
The following advice follows the most popular LEDE system for music studios - live end, dead end. For a more detailed description, check our complete home studio guide.
1. Create a reflection-free zone (RFZ)
You always start by creating RFZ in your listening position by absorbing the sound bouncing from the first reflection points on the sidewalls and ceiling. We want to make the front of the room to be the ‘dead end’ by absorbing as many sound reflections in the front part of the room as we can.
Place Woody Queen absorbers on the sidewalls and the ceiling between the speakers and the listening position.
This will ensure you eliminate the first sound reflections that affect the direct sound from your speakers. It is the biggest bang for the buck.
2. Treat the bass
Low frequencies are usually the biggest problem in a home studio. Due to room modes, the frequency response in the lowest spectrum (40-100 Hz) can be really uneven and chaotic.
Place Woody Wavy absorbers into the front corners of your room, where the effectiveness is the highest.
This will ensure you absorb the lowest frequencies so you eliminate the ‘boominess’ of the room.
The more low-frequency absorption in a small room, the better.
Broadband absorption on the front wall helps as well! Place two Woody Queen absorbers directly behind speakers. This helps with the speaker-boundary interference response (SBIR).
3. Diffusion and additional treatment
After treating the front of the room and creating the dead end, you can start treating the back of the room, the ‘live end’. Diffusers do the exact opposite of absorption, they keep the sound energy inside the room. However, they are designed specifically to redirect the energy so it creates an even diffuse field.
Place Woody Fractal 34 diffusers in an array on a rear wall.
This will make the room sound more lively and the distinct echoes from the rear wall will be eliminated.
Remember, you should have at least 2 meters of space between the listening position and the diffusers on the rear wall (for an even diffusion field to be created).

FAQ
I think my room sounds quite well. Do I need acoustic treatment in the first place?
Listen to music in an acoustically treated room just once, and you will never want anything else. The clarity of sound and lack of any coloration is sure to blow your mind.
In short, proper acoustic treatment will make your life better in ways you never even imagined.
Can you make me absorber in different colors or sizes?
We always go the extra mile to ensure our acoustic solutions suit the specific needs of our clients. Send us a description of what you’re looking for including the required design and dimensions. We will do our best to come up with the best possible solution.
Does this absorber work like the foam tiles/pyramids?
Our Woody absorbers work more effectively compared to conventional foam tiles and pyramids. That’s because we use PET felt (recycled plastic), which boasts greater effectiveness at low frequencies (below 1 kHz), resulting in more sound energy being absorbed. Furthermore, foam pyramids usually fail to contribute to a reflection-free zone at the listening position.
That said, pyramids do a decent job at high frequencies as well as while preventing flutter echoes. So if you insist, use them on parallel untreated walls to complement your Woody Kid absorbers.
Why corners for low-frequency absorbers?
Low-frequency sound waves have the highest energy in the corners of the room. That’s why you want to absorb them right there.
The smaller and the more cubic the design of your room, the more low-frequency mess your room will produce. This is due to room modes, the collection of resonances that exist in the room.
Room modes might seem a little tricky at first, but you can get a good idea of what they are if you read our home studio guide and tips & tricks section.
Should I always use diffusion?
We don't recommend placing diffusers on a wall if you don't have enough room to let the energy evenly spread out before it reaches your ears at the listening position. This means at least 2 meters from the rear wall or more. If your room is smaller, invest more of your time to tame the low frequencies and flutter echoes.
Handcrafted from sustainable and safe materials only, Woody Queen acoustic panels help you improve room acoustics by reducing and absorbing unwanted sound waves. And they look really great too!
