Studio in chapel - Turning Tables Denmark
Turning Tables Denmark approached us with their project of transformation of a former chapel into a music studio and to improve the acoustics of the hall.
We didn’t hesitate, packed our bags, and went for it into the heart of Denmark.
Turning Tables Denmark is a Danish Non-Profit that creates art and culture with youth living in social housing areas - to strengthen their life skills and foster creative breakthroughs in cultural life and music.
Mads from TTDK contacted us with a huge task to help them tame the acoustics of a 500 m2, 300-year-old, chapel in central Copenhagen, Denmark.
Together with Mads, we designed and custom-made a solution across the beautiful old building using our Woody Queen absorbers, Woody Wavy Bass-Traps, diffusers Woody Fractal 34, and custom build Gobos to set up a stunning balcony Music Studio, a live venue, and a video editing suite.
Music studio
One of the rooms is transformed into a studio where Copenhagen’s youth will be making music. We used the Ekustik acoustic treatment, so you can see Woody Wavy in the corners of the room, Woody Fractal 34 diffusers on the sidewalls, and Woody Queens in a special 120x120 cm size.
The sound is really spacy because the room is very big and there is enough absorption on the ceiling and sidewalls. The only thing to be treated in the future is the window in the back, which is producing unnecessary reflections.
Hall
The main hall of the church is going to be a new meeting point for various events. Therefore, the task was to shorten the reverberation time RT60 as much as possible so there isn’t too much noise when there are more people inside.
TTD team will equip the place with acoustic curtains later, but the overall acoustic situation has already been improved with Ekustik-made absorbers in custom size. We created unique acoustic absorbers that fit into alcoves and really big mobile absorbers 2 meters tall that can be wheeled around.
